Historical Philosophers—Will America Follow Ancient Rome?

Civilizations tend to mirror each other’s development over the ages, and modern America has had a history that is remarkably paralleling the rise and fall of the ancient Roman Empire of two thousand years ago. According to today’s leading historical philosophers, we might see the following trends in future American events:

1. The President of the United States will gain greater powers, especially through the exercise of his being Commander-in-Chief in times of war, and chief diplomat abroad.

2. Congress will become more and more ineffective in passing meaningful legislation, the powers of directing national policy falling solely to the President, with Congress remaining as a body of wealthy yes-people exercising petty individual politics only. Corruption and scandal will be the order of the day.

3. Real political influence will be held in the hands of powerful advisors, Cabinet members and various Pentagon and national security officials surrounding the President, who will be constantly involved in intrigues, vying with one another for Presidential favors and policy-making. Eventually, these groups will have the power—like the Praetorian Guard of old—of presenting their own candidates for President to the people.

4. The nation will become a giant welfare state, with production left to the slaves of the modern age—computers and machines. To keep idle Americans preoccupied, the government will sponsor “media events”—sports, spectaculars, entertainment, extravaganzas, political rallies, and even space shots.

5. Americans will become more concerned with security, and will even give up individual freedoms to attain it. Policing action and law enforcement will be left to private semi-military groups, and to a more powerful National Guard, backed by federal intelligence and security agencies. The armed forces will be composed of professional soldiers hired for pay—both American and foreign.

6. Production will fall, and America will become more and more dependent on imported goods. As a result of foreign markets being subjected to revolutions, wars, embargoes and failing economies, Americans will have to put up with periodic shortages of luxuries and even essentials, disrupting the national economy.

7. American currencies will repeatedly be devalued—as Roman coinage was debased—and this will lead to a fixing of prices (as happened under Emperor Caracalla). Jobs will eventually also be fixed, with no one allowed to change their professions, once chosen.

8. In the midst of increasing decadence, the American government will drop the separation between church and state, and American leaders in a stand for conservatism will attempt to become the nation’s moral and spiritual leaders as well. Eastern religions will have great success among the masses, competing with the established yet languishing Christian churches.

9. Eventually, the churches will compromise the basic principles of both Christian and Eastern beliefs, by creating a synthesis—a new form of religion that some day will have more influence than the failing American government.

10. America will at first see herself as the bulwark of civilization against the modern “northern barbarians”—Russia. But her repeated clashes with this power will have left both weaker (the Cold War, Korea, Vietnam). Eventually the two will ally and join forces against the threat of the present-day Huns from the East—China.

Vision of Saint Hildegard of Bingen (1098–1179) on America’s Future

One of the most remarkable prophecies was made by Saint Hildegard of Bingen, a remarkable medieval mystic who predicted coming woes for America three centuries before it was discovered. She forecast that one day there will come forth “a great nation across the ocean that will be inhabited by peoples of different tribes and descent.” But before the appearance of a “great comet” (Halley‘s Comet, next to appear in 2061?), the nation will suffer from “tremendous calamities.”

First, “many nations” including America “will be scourged by want and famine.” When the comet does finally pass over, “the great nation will be devastated by earthquakes, storms, and great waves of water, causing much want and plagues. The ocean will also flood many other countries, so that all coastal cities will live in fear, with many destroyed.”

The next calamity Saint Hildegard foresaw will be terrible war. In a great battle involving almost all the world’s peoples, “the great nation will lose its colonies in the East,” as a result of malevolent activities of two Oriental leaders, alluded to only as “the Tiger and the Lion.” During the future fighting, “A powerful wind will rise in the North carrying heavy fog and the densest dust, and it will fill their throats and eyes so that they will cease their butchery and be stricken with great fear.”

After the time of the great comet, and after earth upheavals and wars are finished, the globe will eventually enter a peaceful age. It will be a time when the citizens of the “great nation” will carry no weapons, and the only use men will have for iron will be to make plowshares for cultivating a land brought back to abundance and tranquility.

“You will see the Constitution of the United States almost destroyed. It will hang by a thread. A terrible revolution will take place in Amerca such as has never been seen before, for the land will be literally left without a supreme government, and every species of wickedness will be rampant. It will be so terrible that father will be against son, mother against daughter. The most terrible scenes of murder, bloodshed and rape that has ever been looked on will take place. You will find the United States broken up, many claiming authority, but still there will be no responsible government. The west coast of America will be invaded by the Orient.”

“All that you now know can scarcely be called a preface to the sermon that will be preached with fire and sword, tempests, earthquakes, hail, rain and fearful destruction. You will hear of magnificent cities now idolized by people, sinking into the earth and entombing the inhabitants. The sea will heave itself beyond its bounds engulfing many cities. Famine will spread over the nation, and nation will rise against nation, kingdom against kingdom, states against states, in our own country and in foreign lands. The time will come that gold will hold no comparison in value to a bushel of wheat.”

Henceforth shall the Republic go on, increasing in goodness and power, until her border shall end only in the remotest corners of the Earth, and the whole Earth shall, beneath her shadowy wings, become a Universal Republic.”

“New states will be formed from Texas and California. A new U.S. Constitution will be adopted under the pressure of radical changes and civil war. And the U.S. will expand to absorb Canada, Central America and the West Indies.”

The Prophetic Dream of Bishop Charles David Evans, 1892

“I looked and beheld a scene most revolting to my senses. I saw the representatives of one branch of the Republic holding in their hands fetters they themselves had forged. These are the chains with which sons of the Republic desire to bind their fellows. These are they who seek to subvert the cause of human freedom. They plot to take away human rights, and to destroy the freedom of the soul, to possess the homes of the industrious without fee or reward.

“I beheld that the bands that held society together during the reign of the Republic were snapped asunder. Society had broken loose from all restraints of principle and good conscience. Brotherhood had dissolved. Respect for common rights and even the rights of life and property had fled the land. I saw faction after faction arise and contend with each other. Political strife was everywhere. The spirit of deadly hate passed through the Republic. Blood was written on every banner. The spirit of bloodshed appeared to possess every heart.

“I looked and beheld that many were angry with the rulers of the Republic, for their perversion of the Constitutional law, and their wholesale plunder of the public moneys.

“(But someday once again) the laws will be administered in purity. The people will prosper. Tyrants will be hurled down. All bodies will be equally protected under the law. (There will be) but one unbroken nation whose banner will wave for all the world.”

“What then will be the condition of the people when the great and dreadful civil war will come? It will be very different from the war between the North and South. It will be neighborhood against neighborhood, city against city, town against town, state against state, and they will go forth destroying, and being destroyed. Manufacturing will almost cease, great cities will be left desolate. The time will come when the great city of New York will be left without inhabitants.”

Ellen White’s Visions of New York City, 1904

While on a visit to New York City in 1904, prophetess Ellen G. White, founder of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, had two visions about the future of the great island metropolis of the East coast.

In the first vision, she described how “building after building arose, higher and higher,” constructed by men of wealth and power as symbols of themselves, competing with one another for the tallest and most expensive structure as an expression of their own egos. The great buildings, she predicted, would be declared “fireproof and perfectly safe.”

“Suddenly,” as her vision of the future progressed, however, “there was an alarm of fire.” “The firefighters will be unable to operate their engines.” The tall buildings, each and every one, had burst into flame, and burned with such an intensity “as if made of pitch.”

In her second vision, the prophetess witnessed another type of destruction to severely affect the very same high buildings she had seen. “One word from the Lord,” Ellen White warned, and these structures will fall to pieces and be swept away, as if the Almighty will brush them aside with His hand. The scene of a great shaking and collapse of New York’s skyscrapers suggests an earthquake of great severity to someday strike the city.

“I believe that we are lost here in America, but I believe we shall be found. I think the true discovery of America is before us. I think the true fulfillment of our spirit, of our people, of our mighty and immortal land, is yet to come.”

“One will see the severity of some very severe droughts in your land (America). The weather patterns will be changing. One will see the beginning of shortages. They will be so severe that in certain localities the grocery stores will be open only a few days in the week. When these shortages come, it will be very abrupt and the shortages will last for quite a while.”

Major Fires to Burn the Midwest

In one of Nostradamus’ prophetic verses—Century VI, Quatrain 35—the seer foresaw a major conflagration to devastate the Great Plains region in the American Midwest. The extent and severity he foresaw would indicate that this will be no ordinary fire, but one which may have any number of natural causes. If the burning were to combine with the Midwest’s other lethal killer—tornadoes—then a horrifying phenomenon may be created.

On October 8, 1871, a weather front and a forest fire in Peshtigo, Wisconsin together generated a “tornado of fire” that survivors called “a whirling chimney of super-heated air,” which destroyed hundreds of acres and killed almost 1,200 people in only a few minutes’ time. If burning conditions became more widespread, then “tornadoes of fire” could sweep through vast areas and cause tremendous devastation.

Nostradamus also predicted the coming of heat waves of an extreme nature to strike the world in various locations. A small sized prelude to what he foresaw took place on the night of June 14, 1960, in the town of Kopperl, Texas. After early evening cool breezes had blown off nearby Lake Whitney, suddenly about midnight the sky was filled with angry tumbling clouds “crackling with explosive rays of lightning” like nothing the local residents had ever seen.

The wind quickly rose to hurricane force, while the air temperature was pushed up to 140 degrees F. Ears of corn were roasted on their stalks, fields of green grass were turned into dry hay ready for baling, cotton plants withered, paint blistered on the sides of houses, and the sleeping residents awoke gasping for air, wrapping their children in wet blankets to keep them from dehydrating.

The freak storm lasted for nearly an hour, and when neighboring towns were contacted the next morning to find out the extent of the damage to the area, the people of Kopperl were amazed to discover that they were the only ones affected by the fiery storm—no other location registered weather or temperature patterns out of the ordinary. To this day the event remains a meteorological mystery, as no expert can adequately explain what combination of atmospheric phenomena could have come together to have produced such an intense yet prolonged heat.

Given the amount of energy we are today pumping into the global weather machine through pollutants, increased carbon dioxide and ozone depletion, the Texas firestorm could someday be repeated, only covering a much larger area and over a longer period, to possibly severely affect the entire Midwest, as Nostradamus foresaw.

One theory concerning what triggered the firestorm is that the energy was generated by a small earth movement that occurred just prior to the weather shift. It is now recognized that movements along faults can produce electric currents that in turn create a phenomenon called “earthquake weather”—unusual ionic storms, fireballs, “glowing rain,” bluish skylights, etc. Though not directly described in his quatrain, it may be that Nostradamus’ Great Plains conflagration will be triggered by a severe quake.

From late 1811 into early 1812, the New Madrid, Missouri fault zone, located south of St. Louis, suffered three shocks estimated to have been 8.8 to 8.6 in Richter intensity. The jolts were so violent they flattened entire forests, and portions of the Mississippi River flowed backward for several days, lowered over large stretches by as much as 15 feet.

The last tremor, on February 7, 1812, shook nearly 2 million miles, ringing church bells as far away as Washington D.C., Boston and Charleston, South Carolina. At the time, the Midwest and Mississippi Valley were sparsely populated—today, however, a similar quake would affect millions of people. And it could also serve as the igniter behind an atmospheric fire that could sweep the Great Plains, destroying both cities and agricultural areas.

The Vivid Dream of Joe Brandt, 1937

A little more than seventy years ago a young boy named Joe Brandt suffered a head concussion from a fall he received while horseback riding. For three days afterwards, Joe lay in a Fresno, California hospital, drifting in and out of consciousness and delirium. During his ordeal, however, he also had a strange and terrifying dream that kept recurring and continuing—something so vivid and clear that upon recovering he immediately wrote down everything he had experienced. Here are a few of the things Joe Brandt witnessed in his dream:

The whole area from the San Bernardino Mountains to the coast will tilt violently toward the ocean. Most of the Los Angeles buildings will stand firm in all the shaking, and many people, to escape the cracking streets, will crawl into them for safety. But then, almost all at one instance, the buildings will collapse into rubble, killing their occupants.

The great concrete roadways will begin dissolving into large chunks. Then the ocean will slowly come in, “moving like a snake across the land.”

Joe was also shown other catastrophes to take place in other parts of the world. Joe felt that these would happen not at the same time as the California quake, but some would occur earlier, and others later. He saw:

An upheaval beginning in the Grand Canyon, spreading as far as Reno, Nevada and Baja, California, with the Boulder Dam to be severely damaged.

Volcanoes erupting in both Colombia and Venezuela, South America.

Japan disappeared into the ocean in so short a time that the Japanese people had only enough time to show an expression of surprise on their faces before going under.

Hawaii will be destroyed by a giant tidal wave.

A flooding of Istanbul will occur as the Black Sea rises.

Sicily will be devastated, as Mount Etna erupts with unrecorded violence.

The Suez Canal will suddenly dry up.

Huge flooding in England, Ireland and Scotland will take place when thousands of people are in church, praying and holding candles.

In New York City, people will go crazy as the water rises dangerously—stores will be sacked, fuel will be scarce, and mobs will run aimlessly through the streets as radios and sirens blast away, and searchlights light up the night sky.

As the dream ended, Joe found himself back in California, standing on Big Bear Mountain. The California coast was still tilting slowly into the encroaching ocean. The very air was disturbed, tossing everything about out of control. And in the middle of the mounting disaster, Joe heard hundreds of radio ham operators yelling into their sets to the very last minute, warnings and messages for those to the east: “This is California. We are going into the sea. This is California. We are going into the sea. Get to the mountains. Nevada, Colorado, Arizona, Utah. This is California. We are going into the sea.”

Could the California “Big One” be Avoided?

Centuries ago, when the first Spanish missionaries arrived in California, and the first Russian Eastern Orthodox priests settled from Alaska to the Pacific Northwest, among their numbers came certain members of various secret societies and religious sects, escaping persecution in their homelands.

Some of those who came had ties with Masonic, early Rosicrucian, Templar, Catharist, Albigensian, as well as older mystic Arabic, Jewish Kabbalistic, Caucasian, Uralean and obscure spiritual groups from the Belovodye region of the Russian steppes—all of whom preserved an age-old wisdom of the understanding of earth energy systems, and how to tap into the hidden powers of the planet, while remaining in perfect harmony with it.

These individuals, upon studying the geological condition of the West coast, discovered also that the Indigenous Peoples from California to Alaska had a tranquil inter-relationship with the Earth, and maintained a series of sacred sites which they employed for a continuous honoring of the Earth through ritual and offering of thanksgiving.

To help reinforce what was already in place, the arriving mystics strategically set up their missions and churches to form a spiritual network that brought about a more powerful human-planetary balance. As long as this network functioned, earthquake and volcanic releases were kept at a minimum, or were re-channeled into cyclic minimal discharges that did only localized limited damage.

But with the advent of the flood of pioneer settlers from the east which later followed in the nineteenth century, many of the sacred sites, churches and missions along the entire West coast were either abandoned or supplanted, with the result that the spiritual network was broken. This has been evident by the steady rise in the number of seismic events for the West coast region overall during the past century, indicating that the imbalances are today causing an ominous buildup of subterranean energies to simmer and percolate in certain areas, and may now be getting ready to boil over.

However, what would happen if a new spiritual network were to be put back in place? What if certain individuals, with the proper training in the ancient geomantic wisdom, fused with the spirit of sacredness once taught by the Indigenous Peoples, were to today re-honor and rebuild a new web of peaceful power points, and begin again the process of giving thanks to the Earth for the abundance She has always freely given?

Perhaps by learning again to be at harmony with the planet, we might yet find a way to re-channel, transmute and dissipate the destructive energies that have been building up within the ground and within the human psyche. If we take the courage to create a way to make this release, and build a new outer and inner patterning to help alleviate any future imbalances, then the triggers—both planetary and human—for any possible disastrous quake or volcanic eruptions will no longer exist.

The beginnings of such a new spiritual network may already be in place. Back in 1992 a group gathering event took place in Los Angeles called “Wake Up L.A.” Its purpose was to create a collective mind and heart projection of peaceful energy to quell the violence that had gripped the city in preceding months.

An added undercurrent was the general feeling that the only solution to southern California’s many problems of pollution, poverty, overpopulation, drug trafficking and racial injustices was the invocation of a massive earthquake. A few months earlier a local psychic had predicted “the Big One” to strike the city, and after it had failed to materialize on the date prophesied, a group of the psychic’s supporters had gone out to the San Andreas Fault to pour oil down the crack and try to pry it free with crowbars. It was meant as a joke—but the collective Shadow often uses humor to give voice to and outwardly project accumulating unconscious desires.

It was in this kind of atmosphere that the “Wake Up L.A.” group gathering was brought together in the natural setting of a major Los Angeles park. The organizers facilitated a day-long city-wide visualization for peace and understanding over radio and television.

The immediate result appears to have been a general cooling down of attitudes and the instilling of a more positive feeling among the populous for several weeks.

And how did the Earth react? Not until years later the scientific journal Nature reported that geophysicists at the Carnegie Institute of Washington discovered in reviewing the data collected from the strain gauges placed along the San Andreas Fault that in 1992 slippage occurred along the central Californian section which should have resulted in a 4.8 Richter quake, large enough and in an area to have caused extensive damage. But the destruction did not take place.

As the scientists observed, two elements that make a tremor destructive is the amount of energy released and the time span during which the release happens. If it takes only seconds or minutes for the energy to be let go, then it is felt as a significant shaking. But in the case of the 1992 slippage, it took place over a week-long period. The result was a quake that was not a quake—an earth change that was a slow and tranquil transformation, with no ensuing catastrophe.

Very significantly, this slippage occurred only a short time after the “Wake Up L.A.” gathering took place. Many believe and feel there was a direct connection between the group meditation done throughout Los Angeles and the spreading out of energies along the San Andreas.

Since that time a small segment of the people who were a part of that gathering have still been doing similar visualization work. In many cases—though not all—other potential quakes which were meant to level southern and central California long ago were either lessened in their degree of severity, or were transferred to neighboring desert, mountainous and less inhabited areas, to manifest instead away from heavily populated regions.

Some would say the Northridge quake of 1994 was an exception. But we may well ask, what would have been the fuller impact of that tremor had someone NOT been meditating?

Washington Seeress Jeane Dixon (1918–1997) on the Future of America

“America will be overwhelmed by confusion, degradation and immorality in our political, business, labor and family lives; for our obsessions with material things and our compromise with higher principles.”

In a vision Dixon saw America symbolized as a Roman marble pavilion littered with debris and filth, that eventually will need to pass through an “aura-flame” of cleansing fire—a global war.

”The two-party system as we have known it will vanish from the American scene.”

”I have seen a government within a government develop in the United States, being controlled and financed by a well-oiled political machine of one of the leading political families. With their eyes on the White House, I see them discredit any man who occupies it without their approval, no matter how good his political programs may be. Their campaign is going to cause great harm to our nation both here and abroad.

“I see this group succeed in taking over de facto control of the country. They will give rise to an upheaval in our social structure as never before seen. They will bring about increased racial unrest and great discontent. Foreign subversive elements will infiltrate the unruly factions and cause renewed fighting on the nation’s campuses and in ghettos. All of the evil in the masses will be swept toward an unknown frenzy by this political machine.”

America’s Uncertain Future in the Stars

Several modern astrologers have forecast rough seas ahead for America, based on its natal horoscope for July 4, 1776, looking forward to the period of 2012 to 2017:

Saturn crossing the natal ascendant in Sagittarius—Collective emotional breakdown, the nation having to go through a great soul searching, facing harsh realities.

Saturn in transit in opposition to America’s natal Uranus in Gemini—A re-evaluation of how America defines freedom, with possible changes in U.S. Constitution and governmental structure.

Transit of Pluto with Capricorn, in opposition to America’s Venus, Jupiter and Sun, which will all be aligned in Cancer—Reflects on a complete shift in America’s relation to other nations both economically and politically, with emphasis on competition and conflict. Also, a change in the form of government is indicated.

Uranus in Aries square America’s Sun in Cancer—Points to a period of radical transformation internally, as well as relations with other countries.

Significantly, what alterations America will go through will be related to similar changes affecting China during this same period. Pluto’s transit through Capricorn squares China’s natal Sun, indicating tremendous turmoil in the Chinese government, and a possible overthrow of those presently in power.

The U.S. Presidential Death Cycle— Will it Continue to be Fuflilled?

Astrological visionaries also portend that the office of the U.S. President has a peculiar curse upon it. Ever since William H. Harrison was elected in 1840, and died in office, every U.S. President elected at 20-year intervals from that time has not survived their term. The list reads this way:

Harrison, elected 1840, died in 1841; Lincoln elected in 1860, assassinated in 1863; Garfield elected in 1880, assassinated in 1881; McKinley elected in 1900, assassinated in 1901; Harding elected in 1920, died in 1923; Roosevelt elected in 1940, died in 1944; Kennedy elected in 1960, assassinated in 1963; Reagan elected in 1980, assassinated but did not die in 1981.

According to probability studies, there is 1 chance in 2,500 that this cycle is due only to coincidence. But why does it happen?

Astrologers point out that the Presidential death cycle has coincided exactly with the great Jupiter–Saturn planetary conjunction that takes place at intervals of 19.85 years and, since the inception of this nation, has fallen always on a decade-opening election year.

Only since 1840 has the conjunction been happening every time in an earth sign—Taurus, Virgo or Capricorn—and will continue to do so until the year 2080.

The one exception was in 1980, when Jupiter and Saturn met instead in an air sign, Libra. It was for this reason, astrologers believe, that Reagan managed to survive his assassination attempt and fulfill his full terms in office.

But in 2000 the conjunction once again took place in an earth sign, in Taurus. As of this writing, President George W. Bush, who was elected in 2000, still has two more years in his second term. Some astrologers warn that he may not survive before he leaves office in 2009.

The future Presidents elected in 2020, 2040, 2060 and 2080 may also be affected.

Virginia Seer Edgar Cayce (1877–1945) on Possible Coming Revolution in America

“Though there may come those periods when there will be great stress, as brother against brother, as a group or sect or race against race, yet the leveling must come. There must eventually come a revolution in this country, and there will be a dividing of the sections as one against the other. For these are the leveling means and manners to which men resort when there is plenty in some areas and a lack of sustenance in the life of others.

“You are to have a division in your own land (civil war) before there is the second of the Presidents that next will not live through his office. (You will see) a mob rule.

“In America (there will need to be) a restabilization of the powers of the people in their own minds—a breakup of the rings, the cliques, in many places.”

Future America and the World—The Visions of Paul Solomon

Reverend Paul Solomon (1939–1994), a respected psychic who founded the Fellowship of the Inner Light, had several visions about the future of the nation:

We will soon be entering a seven year period of famine, of which three peak years will be especially bad. People will fight in the streets over a scrap of bread, and currencies will have no value. “You will see men lining before the doors of institutions finding their currency has no value.”

America will some day be troubled by civil war brought about because of religious belief. Brother will oppose brother in the streets everywhere. This too will contribute to the general weakening of this country as a great power.

Our nation, weakened by economic chaos and internal divisions, will be “attacked by another” world power or powers, who will attempt to “break in upon our shores.” The fighting and destruction will be so serious that the Capital will be moved to a Northern or Northwestern site.

In the Western hemisphere, earthquakes will begin on the west coast of South America and progress northward, increasing in intensity as they move.

The West coast of this nation will be struck, with several hundred miles eventually disappearing into the waters of the Pacific.

Alterations on the East coast will follow, with portions of New York, Long Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts dropping off, and Florida cut off from Georgia by a strait of water.

The disasters on the West and East coasts will be caused by North America “folding” like a closing book, with the fold centering in the Mississippi Valley. This entire region will be flooded by the waters of the Great Lakes, which will empty into the depression.

Land will rise both in the Pacific and Atlantic, forming new continents.

Japan will slide into the sea.

Changes will transform the face of northern Europe, and Britain will someday be covered with polar ice.

There will be a shifting of the poles, and wide displacements on the surface of the planet so that it will take on a new shape and form. “This ball of earth will be smashed flat and reformed into the birth of a new earth and a reign of peace.”

According to Peteson, destruction will first affect Georgia and the Carolinas, then Los Angeles will “plunge under water,” with a flooding of the San Joaquin Valley, eventually leading to an area as far east as Nevada turning into an inland sea.

A major shock will devastate the Pacific Northwest and southwest Canada, leading to an economic collapse. Manhattan will then disappear.

Before 2030 Ireland and western England will suffer a major inundation.

Parts of Spain, Portugal and Italy are to be submerged.

The Pacific “Ring of Fire” will bring about the destruction of Borneo, Japan, northern Alaska, Washington, Oregon and California.

The St. Lawrence River will reverse directions, filling and overflowing the Great Lakes into the Mississippi Valley, turning Louisiana and Mississippi states into a “great inland sea.”

Criswell Predicts on the Future of New York City

Popular syndicated psychic Criswell made the ominous prediction that one day New York City will suffer from a deliberate attack involving nuclear missiles. The United States will someday be at war with a “foreign power” that will cause several nuclear explosions, some of these over the state of Vermont. The ionized air from these detonations will spread out and threaten New York City with fire coming from the sky.

Criswell also foresaw that what is left of New York will someday sink into the ocean. Earth tremors will reshape the coastline, Long Island would be submerged first, and soon after Manhattan will become the “Venice of America”—a city of canals. So great will the sinking be that New Yorkers will be forced to abandon their city for higher and drier territory farther inland.

According to Gavin, a great submergence is to overwhelm New York in the not too distant future. Staten Island is to sink like a raft being pulled underwater, and lower Manhattan will tip into the bay, the waters reaching as far as 59th Street.

Pendragon’s Prophecies Concerning the U. S. East Coast

British psychic John Pendragon made a similar prediction about coming East coast changes. All the Atlantic coast from Boston to Baltimore will be completely wiped out by a massive quake. The center of the destruction will be New York, but serious reverberations will be felt within a radius of five hundred miles of the city, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia to be included. Nothing will be left of these metropolises except the sunken sites where cities once stood.

Geologic Faults in the New York and East Coast Regions

According to a study conducted by geologist William Hobbs as described in “The Configuration of the Rock Floor of Greater New York,” U. S. Geological Survey, Bulletin 270 Series B Descriptive Geology, 73, 1905, several hidden fracture lines dissect Manhattan and the surrounding area, from northwest to southeast—the East River Fault, the 125th Street Fault, the Harlem River Fault, the Dyckman Street Fault, the Van Cortland Park Fault, plus two other cracks which straddle the Harbor waterfronts on both the New York and Jersey sides.

Ominously, only a few decades ago when Con Edison, which supplies the city’s power needs, did test drillings at the south end of Manhattan, one of their drill bits fell off and dropped into an open chasm of undetermined size and depth, at only just below three hundred feet beneath the surface of the city. The multi-storied buildings constructed here are thus not on completely solid ground, and in the event of a massive quake, some experts privately admit that the south third of Manhattan would simply collapse into the surrounding Harbor bay, taking all the skyscrapers with it.

The New York City seismic zones are part of a larger series of fault-lines which extend as far south as Washington D.C. and Baltimore, through Philadelphia, and northward through New England to Boston and Portland, Maine.

More specifically, Manhattan’s fault-lines are inter-connected with the New York Bight Seismic Zone, which extends northward into Connecticut, passes along the northwestern edge of Long Island, and reaches into New Jersey as far as Monmouth County. To the north of the city is the Ramapo Fault Seismic Zone, which penetrates southwestward into northern New Jersey almost to the Pennsylvania state line.

These in turn are part of a larger system of deep-seated faults, called Cameron’s Line that turns into the Goochland Terrane, stretching from central Connecticut in the north, through Maryland just on the outskirts of Baltimore, and onward through eastern Virginia across the North Carolina border, and are interlinked with the major fault zone which caused the great Charleston quake of 1886, to the south.

A number of geologists have noted that all these fractures along the East and Southeast coasts have become more active in recent years, and predict that a larger seismic event along portions or all of these is only a matter of time. It may be that a major earth movement to cause severe damage to the New York City area will likewise affect the entire Northeast coast and its other major urban centers.
