The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in a Modern Setting

In Chapter Six of his prophetic work, Revelations, the apostle John described the appearance of four horses and their riders, each with distinctive characteristics, symbolizing four successive periods of trouble and woe for the world. While Bible commentators over the past two millennia have given many different interpretations for what has come to be known as the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, today we are beginning to see a disturbing global fulfillment in our modern age—and offers us a warning of what is yet down the road.

“And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.

“And I saw, and behold a white horse, and he that sat on him had a bow, and a crown was given unto him, and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.”

The First Horseman is the Messenger of Subjugation. A modern interpretation sees this rider as representing global imperialism by the Western powers, which pervaded the entire nineteenth century through the early years of the twentieth. Interestingly, this era began with the rise to power of Napoleon, who rode upon a white horse and was crowned Emperor. We remember that he was singled out by Nostradamus as being the “first Antichrist” or world conqueror.

“And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.

“And there went out another horse that was red, and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another, and there was given unto him a great sword.”

The Second Horseman is the Messenger of War, and beginning with the advent of World War I in 1914 up through the present day, humanity has witnessed a steady series of multi-national conflicts including two World Wars and numerous regional armed contests such as Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and so many others. Significantly, the color of this Second Horseman is red—and so many of the chief antagonists in these global tugs-of-war had the color red in their flags—Germany, Japan, the Communist nations. Red is also symbolic of the blood of millions of soldiers and civilians who lost their lives over the past century. It was also of course during this period of warfare that Nostradamus’ “second Antichrist” made his appearance—Adolph Hitler.

“And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse, and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.

“And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny, and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.”

The Third Horseman is clearly the Messenger of Famine, and he rides a black, sackcloth-hued, funeral-colored horse. The balance in the Horseman’s hand is a sign of both judgment and want—the careful measuring of wheat and barley that are so scarce that it takes a full day’s wages to buy just a handful. The warning given not to “harm the oil and wine” may be an omen that if care is not taken in the production and storage of these two highly prized commodities, they will disappear entirely.

If the sequence of world disasters symbolized by all the Horsemen holds its course, then we can expect the Black Horse of Famine to make its advent into our world in the next few years, and to last through to the end of the twenty-first century.

“And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see.

“And I looked, and behold a pale horse, and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.”

The Fourth Horseman is Death itself, who approaches next riding on a deadly pale, venom-spotted horse. He is the Messenger of Plague, and is prophesied to carry off one-fourth of the population of the planet—which in our near future will be over two billion people. Most importantly, he brings with him not only disease, but also all the other death-dealing instruments of the other riders—the conquest of Hell, the sword of war, and death by hunger. He is the final culmination, synthesizing all the other global disasters into one all-embracing event. If the lengths of periods for each of the Horsemen holds true, then we can expect the coming of the Final Rider some time before the end of the present century.

Being that this Rider holds a sword, like the Second Horseman, then during his time we will see a return to yet another global war. This may be when the “third Antichrist” of Nostradamus, prophesied to be the worst of all, may make his presence known in the world.

The one consolation is that the Fourth Horseman is the last one John foresaw. Beyond, the apostle prophesied other difficulties and calamities, but eventually these will pass, and an age of a “new heaven and a new earth” will someday dawn. From our perspective today, however, only the first two Horsemen have passed our way—we have yet to face the forebodings of the remaining two.

The Prophet Daniel’s Vision of a Future Middle East War

A detailed account of a war involving the Arabs and Europe was written by the prophet Daniel more than 2,600 years ago. The story is found in the Book of Daniel, Chapter 11, verses 40 through 45. Here is a modern rendition:

“At the time of the end shall the leader of the south push at him, and the leader of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with war vehicles, and with troops, and with ships, and he will enter into their countries, and shall overflow and pass over.”

This verse gives us the entire story of the conflict. In the last days of the Present Age, the “leader of the south,” or a dominant power in the Middle East, will attack the “leader of the north” or Europe and her allies—very likely America and other Western powers. The northern powers will counter-attack and eventually defeat the Arab nations. The remaining verses now give the particulars of the conflict.

“He (the leader of the south) shall enter into the glorious land and many countries shall be overthrown. But these shall escape from his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.”

The war will begin when the Arabs successfully conquer Israel (“the glorious land”) and several other nations. Edom, Moab and Ammon are now a part of Syria, Transjordan and Arabia, all to become unified in a confederated Arab empire—and thus not to be among those to be attacked.

“He will stretch out his hand also upon other countries, and the land of Egypt shall not escape.”

The Arab empire will extend its policy of unification in North Africa, and pro-Western Egypt will be overthrown.

“But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and silver, and over the precious things of Egypt. And the Libyans and Ethiopians shall be at his steps.”

The Arab empire will have “power over gold and silver,” or great economic strength—which they have already through control of most of the world’s oil. The “precious things of Egypt” may be Egypt’s hidden oil reserves. The Arabs will also unify North and Central Africa under their control.

“But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him. Therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly take away many.”

Events in other parts of the world—in the Orient and among the powers of the northern hemisphere, the United States and Russia—will trouble the Arabs, and they will drive to consolidate their positions.

“And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain. Yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.”

“Tabernacles” are tents—an appropriate symbol for the Arabs. They will attempt to establish and defend themselves in Israel, between the Mediterranean and the Dead and Galilee Seas, and in Jerusalem. But as already predicted in the first verse, the powers of the north (Europe and her allies) will defeat and destroy them, bringing this future war to a close.

A number of Bible scholars have noted the similarity between Daniel’s war scenario and a parallel prophecy given by the prophet Ezekiel, in the 38th chapter of his Book. It gives a list of nations, including Gog and Magog, which will come against Israel in the Last Days. The nations mentioned are from Central Asia, Europe and Africa—and their movements indicate they too will join in a conflict between Northern and Southern powers over who shall control the Holy Land. This battle will be so horrific that, according to Ezekiel, it will take seven months to bury all the bodies and destroy all the weapons.

A strikingly similar prophecy was made by the apostle John in his Revelations, described in the Sixth Trumpet which will include an invasion coming from East:

Does the Sixth Trumpet in Revelations Describe the Same War?

“Then the sixth angel blew his trumpet, and from the four horns of the altar of gold which stands before the Divine One, I heard a lone voice saying, to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, Free the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates. So the four angels, who had been in ready for that hour in the appointed day, month and year, were freed to destroy a third of humanity. The number of their troop of cavalry was twice ten thousand times ten thousand (200,000,000), and I heard what their number was. And in my vision the horses and their riders wore breastplates the color of fiery red and sapphire blue and sulfur (brimstone) yellow. The horses’ heads looked like lions’ heads, and from their mouths their poured fire and smoke and sulfur. A third of humanity was killed by these three plagues of fire and the smoke and the sulfur that poured out from the mouths of the horses.” (Chapter Six).

Concerning this prophecy we may note these points:

The armies begin to move from the region of the “great river Euphrates,” now in modern Iraq. This river often represented the entire East in prophecy, for it was the traditional barrier separating the West from the Orient.

The number of troops mentioned is 200,000,000—a number of only very modern proportions. It so happens that the standing army of China is presently 200 million strong.

It is clear the description of the “horses” and “horsemen” are meant to be symbolic—the images of breastplates, and of fire, smoke and sulfur issuing from the horses’ mouths sounds more like modern tanks or mobile artillery or rocket-launching vehicles.

The three colors of red, blue and yellow were once predominant in the battle flags and standards of the medieval Arabs, Turks and Mongols. Today they are found in many national flags of the Middle East and Far East.

Islamic Prophecies Concerning a Future Conflict

The Shi’ite religious faction in Islam has a number of prophecies concerning four events or signs that will happen just before the arrival of the al-Qa’im, a prophet of God who for nearly a thousand years has been in hiding until the Appointed Day of his Reappearance.

The first sign will be the coming of an army from the east in the direction of Baghdad under the leadership of an ancestor of al-Yamani, an eighth century Muslim commander.

The second sign will be the arrival of another army, this one from the west, moving against the present political regime in Baghdad. This second military force will be under the supervision of an ancestor of al-Sufyani, another important early Muslim commander.

The third sign involves a spectacular assassination of a much-loved religious leader in Mecca. This is supposed to happen just two weeks before the Imam’s imminent advent.

And the third sign will be the coming of a third army, this one directed against Mecca, who will be miraculously destroyed by sinking out of sight into the sands of the desert.

Ancient Forecasts of Coming Invasions from the Far East

There are two Persian prophecies that likewise describe invading armies coming from the East. In the Zoroastrian work Bahman Yast we find these words:

“Hundreds, thousands and ten thousands of kinds of demons with parted hair, descendants of Fury, the basest race, will appear from the direction of the East and rush into the land of the Iranians. They have raised banners and carry black weapons, their hair is parted falling down on the back. They are small, the basest of servants, but powerful and skilled in smiting.”

The prophetic words of the Zoroastrian sacred book Bundahizm is more succinct:

“Thereafter the Chionites (Chinese) and Turks (from Central Asia) in large numbers and with many banners will rush into the land of the Iranians. They will devastate this prosperous land.”

In the Sibylline Oracle of the second century B.C.E., the Chinese are again implicated as an instigator of a future war:

“The fiery Dragon (China) will come on the waves, and shall oppress your future children (Europe). Famine will also be pending, and strife, and then is nigh the end of the world and the last days.

“From the Asian land he will come, mounted on the Trojan chariot. Then he shall encounter the great black beast of blood.”

The Future War According to the King of the World Prophecy, Tibet

“Men will become like bloodthirsty animals. The crescent (Islam) will become obscured and its followers descend into lies and perpetual warfare. The crowns of kings will fall. There will be terrible war between all the world’s peoples. Entire nations will die. (There will be) hunger, crime, unknown laws. The ancient roads will be filled with multitudes going from one place to another. The greatest cities will perish by fire. There will be eighteen years of war and cataclysms. Then the (holy) people of Agharti will leave their subterranean caverns and will appear on the surface of the Earth.”

Seneca’s Roman Prophecy on the End of the Present World

A single day will see the burial of mankind,
All that the long forbearance of fortune has produced,
All that has been raised to eminence,
All that is famous and all that is beautiful,
Great thrones, great nations—
All will descend into one abyss,
All will be overthrown in a single hour.

4th Century Saint Ephraim on a Chinese Invasion by Air

“A great conflict will come in those times among all men, when there shall be signs and wonders made by the Dragon (China), when he shall manifest himself as a god leading fearful phantasms flying in the air.”

7th Century Saint Odile‘s Vision of Future Conflict from the Arabs

“There will come a time when War will break out, more terrible than all other wars combined, which have ever visited mankind. All nations of the Earth will fight each other in this war. The fighters will rise up to the heavens and take the stars and throw them on the cities, to set ablaze the buildings and to cause immense devastations. Battles of the past will only be skirmishes compared to the battles that will take place, since blood will flow in all directions. The Earth will shake from the violent fighting. Famine and pestilence will join the war. Thrice will the sun rise over the heads of the combatants without having been seen by them (a dark day three days long). On a single day more men will have been killed than the catacombs of Rome have ever held. Strange signs will appear in the skies. The horns of the moon (Islam, the East) will fight the cross (Christianity, the West).”

Portents of the 13th Century Book of Pilgrimage on a Future Global Contest

“A war will come before which all previous wars will fade. Streams of fire will come from clouds, where there are no clouds. And in the middle will be the great water. Big eagles (aircraft?) will fly in the skies and soldiers will dig through the earth like moles (underground warfare?). Great armies with iron horses and dragons (war vehicles) will be seen. Battles will rage on and in the air, and whole cities on this side and across the great water will be destroyed. All capital cities on both sides of the water will be buried under rubble and ash, and there will be a great groaning and moaning among all peoples. The horrors of war will be also on and over the water, and the enemy will be smitten with many casualties until everything will be over.”

Humanity’s Propensity Toward Warfare, Guru Nanak, 1521

“You know that the dark age is like a dagger, which kings handle like butchers. Justice has taken wing and flown away. The darkness of lies obscures even the light of the moon, which cannot be seen. Humanity groans under the dread dominion of self-centeredness. The people in their unconsciousness are without power. They are too eager to usurp what others have. They shout aloud, indulge in battle songs and uphold war.”

16th Century Seeress Mother Shipton’s Forewarnings of Coming Warfare

The kings shall false promises make,
And talk just for talking sake,
And nations plan horrific war,
The like as never seen before,
And taxes rise and livelihood down,
And nations wear perpetual frown.

And Christian one fights Christian two,
And nations sigh, yet nothing do,
And yellow men great power gain,
From mighty beasts with whom they’ve lain.
These mighty tyrants will fail to do,
They will fail to split the world in two,
But from their acts a danger bred,
In arguing, leaving many dead.

A house of glass shall come to pass (the United Nations?),
Far from England, but alas, alas,
A war will follow with the work,
Where dwells the Pagan (the Far East) and the Turk (Middle East).

These states will lock in fiercest strife,
And seek to take each others’ life.
When north shall thus divide the south,
And Eagle builds in a Lion’s mouth.

Then tax and blood and cruel war,
Shall come to every humble door.
And spilling blood by mankind’s hands,
Will stain and bitter many lands.

Forebodings of War by the 17th Century Seeress of Prague

“The end is at hand. Yellow dust clouds take the breath of man and animal. In the city there is fire everywhere. The Earth is moved, deep crevices open and everything sinks into black depths. Everything that was of the work of men shall be in disarray and ashes.

“Nothing compares previously to anything like this. Out of the East comes the Dragon (China), who looks horrible. Out of his nine tongues and ninety-nine eyes there will shoot deadly lightning and out of his open mouth there will blow a poisonous breath. Thousands of people will lie in death with horribly twisted faces. From the East comes a fireball flying through the air, and everywhere there is screaming amid an ocean of fire. Life is wiped out.

The 1646 Prophecy of Bartholemew Holzhauser

“Two mighty ones, the Beast and the Dragon (West and East) will face each other. Their wrangle will overthrow mountains and silt up rivers. Old states will perish. With swords they will be able to cut the skies and to split the earth. A great lament will come over all mankind and only a small batch will survive the storm, the pestilence and the horror. And neither of the two adversaries will conquer nor be vanquished. Both mighty ones will lie on the ground. After that a new mankind will come into existence.”

Rudolfo Gilthier’s 1765 Vision of a Future Invasion of Europe

“A prince from the East with a great army will move throughout Europe.”

1701 Prognostication of the Monk of Werl

“There will be terrible war. On one side will be the peoples of the West, and on the other those of the East. They will arrive with a multitude of soldiers. The war will be fought for a long time with indecisive results until they reach the Rhine. There they will fight for three days until the waters of the Rhine will be all red. Then all will be completely decided at the Battle of the Birch Tree, where those dressed in white, blue and gray will fight with such might and rage that many multitudes will be wiped out. Then there will be peace and calm everywhere.”

The Birch Tree Prophecy of 1701

“East against West will resort to heavy weapons. A war will follow after a winter which is really no winter. In nearby lower Germany the battle will be decided. The battle will begin by the Birch Forest near Bodberg. For three days they will fight. Covered with wounds, they will fight until they stand in blood.”

Another Birch Tree Prophecy Foreseen by German Seer Peter Schlinkert

“At the Birch Tree the armies of the West will fight a terrible battle against the armies of the East, and after many bloody sacrifices be victorious. The soldiers of the East will retreat, being completely annihilated and only a few will escape to return home with the news of defeat. After these days of mishap and misery, happiness and peace will return to Germany.”

The Coming of Future War According to Spielbahn’s Prophecy, 1772

“A small people will arise and bring war into the world. Poison will fall as rain upon the fields, which will bring great hunger into Germany. A great king will rise and win victory for the just cause. The survivors of the adversary armies will flee as far as the Birch Tree. There the last battle will be decided for the good cause. Those who have been hiding in the mountains will return to plant fields. Those brothers who have escaped the holocaust will return from abroad with their children and they will live again in peace at home.”

The Vision of Stromberger, 18th Century

“Between the nations will come a third universal conflagration which will determine everything. There will be entirely new weapons. In one day more men will die than in all previous wars combined. Battles will be fought with artificial guns. Gigantic catastrophes will occur. The nations of the Earth will not be aware of what is happening, and those who will know and tell, will be silenced. Everything will become different than before, and in many places the Earth will be a great cemetery. The third great great war will be the end for many nations.”

Prophecy Given to George Washington at Valley Forge, 1777

In the first two portions of his vision, General Washington foresaw the successful conclusion of the Revolutionary War, then a hundred years later the tragedy of the Civil War. Within two centuries after the last event, he next saw America invaded by foreign powers.

A dark, ominous being sounded three blasts on a war trumpet. The being then took water and sprinkled it on the continents of Europe, Africa and Asia. From these regions thick, black clouds issued forth and, joining as one, moved toward America.

Throughout the mass of clouds the General saw terrific explosions of gleaming red light, outlining in each flash great numbers of armed men, moving with the cloud.

The brilliance struck the nation’s coasts, and immediately the towns and cities Washington had seen grow in the previous scenes were burning with intense fires. He heard the sound of great rolling thunder, cannon-like blasts, as the invading forces and inhabitants locked in bitter struggle.

But a bright angel then interrupted the scene, and sounding his trumpet with one hand and waving a sword in the other, helped the stricken American people to overcome and push back the invading armies. The clouds of war finally dispersed, and the nation’s cities began to rebuild once more.

Church Mystic Anna Emmerich‘s Vision, 1820

“All around me I see a terrible bloody war which approaches from Midnight, the North, and Evening, the East. I saw the Earth covered in darkness, everything was withered and barren, everything made the impression of pining away. It seems that even the waters of the springs were exhausted. I saw countries and people in the greatest distress, and fighting each other violently. In the center of the battleground was a giant abyss, into which the warring factions seemed to fall.”

World War Forecast of the Abbé Curique, 1872

“A terrible war will ensue. The enemy will come from the East like a flood. The conflict, in which one half the world will oppose the other half, will not be of long duration. God will scare the warring factions by producing a terrible natural catastrophe.”

America Invaded by Asians—Alois Irlmaier, 19th Century

“The Great City (New York) of the United States will be destroyed by rockets, and the West Coast will be invaded by Asians, but they will be beaten back. The Third World War will come, but I cannot predict the year. War will begin on a rainy night, shortly before harvest time, when the ears are full. War will begin after the assassination of an eminent politician. And invasion from the East will follow.

”It will become dark on one day during the war. Then a huge thunderstorm will appear with bolts of lightning and thunder and an earthquake will move the Earth. Do not go out of the house. The movements of people will stop. Whoever inhales the dust will develop illness and die. Do not open the windows. All open water will become poisonous, and all open food which has not been canned. Also all foods in glass will not make it. Outside the dust moves. Many people will die. After seventy-two hours all will be over. The sign of the cross will appear in the heavens. The war will end as quickly as it began, and a natural phenomenon will end it.”

Oriental and Arab Invasion of Europe— Countess Francesca de Billiante, Early 20th Century

“I see yellow warriors and red warriors (Orientals and Arabs) marching against the rest of the world. Europe will become completely covered with a yellow fog that will kill the cattle in the fields. Those nations which began the war, however, will perish by terrible fire. May the Lord grant my future generations the grace of perseverance in these times.”

Predictions of the Last War—Sister Elena Aiello, 1959

“The world will be convulsed in a new and terrible war. Deadly armies will destroy nations, peoples. Much that has been made by the hand of man will be destroyed. The dictators of the Earth—truly infernal monsters—will raze churches with their sacred grounds. Clouds bright with fire will suddenly appear across the sky and a storm of fire will beat down on all the world. This terrible scourge, never before seen in human history, will last for seventy-two hours.”

Billy Meier on the Next World War, Its Prelude and Aftermath, 1979

“In all Western industrial countries which still live at the beginning of the new millennium in the delusion that they could dominate and ruler over underdeveloped nations, will not only soon lose influence over these but must defend themselves against them.

“The USA will set out against the Eastern countries ahead of all other financial states and simultaneously she will have to defend herself against the Eastern intruders. In all, America will play the most decisive role, when in the guise to strive for peace and to fight against terrorism she invades many countries of the Earth, bombs and destroys everything and brings thousandfold deaths to the populations (Note: This prophecy was communicated and published several years before America’s present conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq). The military politics of the USA will likewise know no limits, as neither will their economic and other political institutions. In the guise of a so-called peaceful globalization, American politics will aspire to gain absolute control of the world concerning supremacy in economy.

“Many Asian, African and European states will rise up against the American hegemony, once they recognize that the United States of America is only taking advantage of them for purposes of war, conquest and exploitation. In this way, many countries will become puppet states of America before reason and realization will emerge in the responsible ones of government and in many of the population, resulting in a turning away from the USA.

“Most of the evil (in Europe) will be brought about by politics. France and Spain become involved with each other in armed conflicts, and even before World War Three will have broken out. Yet France will not only engage in armed conflicts with Spain, for within her great unrest will arise, leading to upheavals and civil war, as will be the case in Russia and Sweden. Especially in France and Sweden, machinations as well as dictatorial regulations of the European Union will cause much unrest and many uprisings, but also cirmes committed by gangs and organized criminal elements in these countries will cause unavoidable civil wars.

“The new Russia will continue its longstanding conflict with China over Inner Mongolia, with the result that Russia will lose a portion of this territory to China. And China becomes dangerous, especially to India, as also at this time China maintains uneasy relations with her. China will attack India, and if biological weapons are used, around 30 million human beings will be killed in the area of and around New Delhi alone. However, this will not be the end yet—because the effect of biological bombs and missiles used cannot be controlled at that time, and terrible epidemics unknown up to that point in time will arise and will spread quickly to many areas. Also Pakistan will allow herself to be misled to instigate a war against India, which will be especially dangerous in view of the fact that both countries are developing atomic weapons.

“Monstrous forces will be created by science and will be released by the military forces and armies as well as by terrorists, causing great destruction. Millions and even billions of people will be killed by acts of terrorism, by wars and civil wars. And finally in some parts of the world every third human being, and in other places every fourth human being, will lose his or her life.

“The nations of the East will rise against the nations of the West, the West against the East. The people will be completely powerless against all this and will live through 888 days of Hell on Earth, suffering hunger and plagues which will claim even more lives than the war itself. The time will be severe as never before experienced on Earth. Ultimately, nothing can be bought or sold any longer. All provisions will be rationed, and if a human being steals even a small piece of bread, they will have to pay for it with their life.

“And it will be that the fanatics of Islam will rise up against the countries of Europe and all will shake and quiver. Everything in the West will be destroyed. England will be conquered and thrown down to the lowest level of misery. And the fanatics and warriors of Islam will retain their power for a long time. However, not only Europe will be affected but ultimately all the countries and people of the Earth, as the greater horror expands to a war that will encompass the entire world.

“Destruction of war will descend on the northern countries (of Europe) as strong military forces wil invade them from the East and will pillage and murder as well as use bombs and missiles, like hail coming down, and hitherto unknown weapons of laser and computer-controlled types which will destroy and annihilate everything. The first target will be Hungary and after that will follow Austria and northern Italy. Switzerland will also be severely affected, but will not be the actual target. This will be France and Spain. However, the main objective of the aggressors will be to bring all of Europe under their military control, and for that purpose France will be selected to be the headquarters.

“France will not only be invaded by the aggressors from the outside, but will also be conquered from within as a result of collaborative forces and others. This can be envisioned as being the many foreigners of a different religion living in France at that time, and specifically Islam, which will be this force working from within. Once France is fallen, a war to conquer Spain and England will take place. Subsequently, an alliance with the forces of the aggressors will be formed, which will invade Scandinavia.

“Enormous natural catastrophes and rolling walls of fire and violent hurricanes will rage all across America, while, in addition, all the terrible effects of war will bring thousandfold deaths, destruction and annihliation. America’s largest cities will be absolutely destroyed, and firestorms will cause great disaster and misery.

“Two terrible civil wars will break out in America, whereby one will follow the other. Afterwards, the United States of America will break apart and deadly hostility will prevail among her people, which then leads to its division into five different territories. This cannot be prevented because sectarian fanatics will play a dictatorial role.

“The entire planet will become an arena of unparalleled suffering, which will never have existed before on Earth up to that time. The cruel happenings will last about 888 days and cause civilization to collapse. Yet the terrible scenario will continue, and epidemics and various diseases as well as enormous famine will be spread among the people, while the economy of the world will totally collapse and there will be no possibility to produce any goods. All foods and medications will be rationed.

“Unnatural inner-Earth movements will be created, which also lead to unnatural tectonic effects and causes earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, which also in turn cause enormous climatic changes, resulting in horrendous tornadoes of devastating proportions which in the end will set their destructive energies free on the entire world. All of this will lead to increasingly horrible floods and unusually massive snowfalls which will advance to the southern countries and finally even to the equatorial regions, because through the insanity of human beings the Earth has begun noticeably to spin erratically as a consequence of atomic explosions inside and on the surface of the Earth. And this will be the reason that the planet will slowly but surely enter an extraordinary spinning orbit around the Sun. This will cause a change in climate, leading to a new ice age.”

Modern Psychic Predictions of World War III

Jeane Dixon warned that America’s troubles may lead the nation into a global war. She wrote:

“In the year 2025, Red China will have reached an economic and political stability sufficient to forge ahead and become the great conqueror. I see Chinese and Mongol troops invading the Middle East. I see devastating battles raging uncontrollably east of the Jordan river. It is a war of East against West. It will be an almost futile fight against an overwhelming foe, and great losses will be suffered by the Orientals.

“The biggest danger the world faces in the future is Red China. When peace negotiations have seemingly concluded in the first quarter of the twenty-first century, Red China will show her teeth.”

The Washington seeress also predicted that the United States and Russia will one day be at war against China, parts of Africa and the Far East. She also warned that China will use germ warfare, and that the Davis Straits—between Greenland and Baffin Island in northern Canada—will become a “life-line between two nations.”

The Virginia prophet Edgar Cayce saw strife to come over “social ills,” the disparity between the developed and underdeveloped nations. He forewarned to keep a careful watch on Libya, Egypt, Ankara (Turkey), Syria, the Persian Gulf, the Indian Ocean and the seas off southeast Asia and to the north of Australia. Cayce likewise pinpointed the Davis Straits as a vital area—which would only become such as a communications link between the U.S. and Russia over the North Pole.

California’s Criswell received a psychic vision of Russians, Chinese and Koreans fighting in Alaska. He also forecast that about the same time a “foreign power” will attempt to bomb the United States with nuclear missiles. Many will be driven off course, but several will explode over the state of Vermont. Criswell likewise predicted that California will become an arsenal state for the nation in the West against an attack from Asia, and that Alabama and Florida will hold our defenses against a belligerent Central and South America.

British psychic John Pendragon predicted that the world’s future hot spots will be in the Far East, in a region with the China Sea as the center—from Beijing in the north to Australia in the south. The U.S. will be involved in a war with China, as the Asian giant invades Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, New Guinea and the Australian continent. Japan and India will be our allies, while Russia will try to remain neutral until it too is attacked, through Mongolia. Major fighting will also occur in the Middle East, between Egypt and Iran.

Chicago seeress Irene Hughes foresaw America, Russia and China at war in the future, with a great deal of the fighting to take place in the Middle East. She saw that the war will begin when a “three-pronged flame” will touch America, Russia and India. Conflict will reach Australia, Alaska and Greenland.

In 1971, parapsychologist Hans Holzer compiled a “survey of the future” from a number of psychics and seers in America and Britain, whom he had been studying and testing for accuracy. When asked about the prospects of a future global conflict, he found a striking correlation among all the answers. Their visions, taken as a whole, predict that:

1. The United States will be in a war with China.

2. Russia will be our ally.

3. While most of the psychics predicted the war for the 1980’s, a number of others foresaw the conflict will take place some time in the early half of the twenty-first century.

4. Nuclear weapons and germ weapons will be used, though only to a limited degree.

5. New York, Chicago and the West coast are possible targets for destruction.

6. China will dominate the entire Far East, and important battles will take place in the Middle East.

7. Europe will also be affected by the war, several nations joining in alliance with the United States and Russia.

8. Alaska and Greenland will become strategic areas during the conflict.

9. China will eventually lose the war, but only after the United States and her allies will have suffered great loss.

As a child medicine man and prophet Sun Bear foresaw the white man’s lands in America to be one day devastated by drought and severe energy shortages. And then he saw in his vision that afterwards would appear the burnt and cratered shells of what are now America’s major cities.

The Holy Man of the Canadian Iroquois, Deganawida, foresaw a coming of a White Serpent who will almost suffocate his people to death, until it is threatened by a Red Serpent coming from the North. The battle between these two Serpents will create a great heat that “will cause mountains to crack and rivers to boil,” and certain regions for a long time will be left with no grass or leaves on the trees. Both Serpents will be sickened by the stench of death. A Black Serpent will then enter the battle, the White Serpent will be greatly weakened but victorious, and a new Age will then insure peace and tranquility for the world.

According to the Hopi Nation’s Prophecy, the last war will be started by the people who first received the light of wisdom—China, Palestine, India and Africa. America will be destroyed by a gourd of ashes which will fall to the ground, boiling the rivers and burning the earth, where no grass will grow for many yars, and causing a disease that no medicine can cure. The homeland of the Hopi People, the American Southwest, will be one of the few “safe” lands, from which refugees will go out to rebuild the nation after the war is over.
