"To suppose that earth is the only populated world in infinite space is as absurd as to believe that in an entire field sown with millet, only one grain will grow." — Metrodorus of Chios, fourth century B.C.E.

"We are the sowers." — Lao-tse, sixth century B.C.E.

In 1999, Princeton University cosmologist Paul Steinhardt and University of Cambridge theoretical physicist Neil Turok developed the concept that before the Big Bang that brought our present Universe into existence, there had been other pre-existing Universes. These likewise had expanded out from an initial titanic burst, then eventually contrasted in on itself, to create another apocalyptic Big Bang that started the next Universe.

Three years later Steinhardt and Turok had revised their theory to more fully take in a radically new structure. They visualized that our three-dimensional Universe is submerged in a larger reality composed of ten dimensions, which is one of the fundamental prerequisites in the formation of super-strings, considered the basic constituent of all matter. The ten-directional reality is what they call the Bulk, while our Universe is designated as a Brane. Most significantly, the two scientists envision that there exists more than one Brane floating within the Bulk, that these Branes or other Parallel Universes move about and sometimes collide with one another, creating something like a Big Bang. The result is the transformation of the affected Branes into vast stretches of physical matter that expand and contract, just as our Universe is doing.

In 2004, Sean Carroll and Jennifer Chen of Caltech elaborated on the above concept by suggesting that within the larger Expanse there has occurred many Big Bangs of a smaller scope that have blown up only one small corner of an earlier Mega-Universe, and that what they call “pocket universes” much like our own are constantly “popping out” to create an aggregate of “multiverses.”

Whichever of these models one accepts, what is important to note is that the old standard Big Bang concept no longer defines the prevailing limits of how far back in time and space we can explore, even comprehend.

It also raises the important question, if we, as intelligent beings, inhabit this Universe, were there once equally or possibly greater octaves of higher intelligences who lived in Previous Universes, or who even now predominate in Parallel Universes contemporary to our own, in this present moment in time?

Are there multiversal beings who have the ability to cross over from one Universe into another, in both many-dimensional space and time, to influence their development in a major but undetectable manner?

And do such higher intelligences have the power to actually bring a new Universe into existence, and direct its cosmic evolution through the passage of eons?

Which brings us to the question, was our particular Universe deliberately designed for the development of intelligent life? This is what is called the anthropic principle, which is to say, as renowned Princeton physicist Freeman Dyson once quipped, “The Universe knew we were coming.”

Or as Stanford physicist Andrei Linde more recently put it, “Our Universe contains a lot of really, really strange coincidences, and all of these coincidences are such that they make life possible.”

In essence, in a steady-state Universe in which all forces would be randomly equalized, and all energy exchanges occurred “normally” and predictably, then life, let alone intelligent life, could never come into existence. Instead, life is totally dependent on a host of exceptions to universal rules. What is more, such extreme conditions have not come and gone in an instant, but have remained steadfastly present over billions of years. It is as if the askewed laws of our Universe were custom-tailored for the formation of life and intelligence, that we were not adapted to this local bit of cosmos, but that instead our surrounding cosmos was purposely adapted to us.

We have a situation here, on a smaller scale, akin to what British botanist James Lovelock came up with in the 1960’s regarding why life has persisted on Earth over so long a time, allowing for advanced evolution and the appearance of higher intelligent beings to eventually emerge. His revelation, which he called the Gaia Hypothesis, was that life itself as a whole has had a profound and prolonged effect on regulating the terrestrial delicate atmospheric mixture of gases, surface pressure and temperatures. All these collectively created quirks in the Earth’s biological landscape have been maintained for all the while that living forms have been present.

But while this may be true for the Earth, what is the regulating medium for the sustenance of life and intelligent life throughout all the Universe? From what we have so far been able to determine based on our explorations of the other planets in our Solar system, life does not persist beyond a few exceptional even unique locations, so that its overall influences are very severely limited to only a few worlds where it predominates, and certainly not across the Universe. Once again, are we looking at the possibilities of orders of higher intelligences who are manipulating the fundamental nature of our particular Universe so that life and evolved life has had a chance to come into being?

Modern physicists, in their attempt to explain the strangeness of our universal reality, invoke the classic story of an infinite number of monkeys, each of which is given a computer and a keyboard on which they randomly type. At some point in time, according to the laws of chance, one of these monkeys will manage to type out the complete works of William Shakespeare. Similarly, given a theoretical infinite number of Parallel Universes, the argument goes, one of these will produce all the anomalies that allows life and intelligence to emerge— like our own.

Yet the odds for such a thing actually manifesting are so astronomical (literally) that the certainty of it happening is practically nil. Instead, it is far easier to visualize the existence of some vast Intelligences purposely at work, who were and still are predisposed to intricate designing and planning on a cosmic scale.

As the eminent cosmologist Fred Hoyle once said, “A common-sense interpretation of the facts suggests that a super-intellect has monkeyed with physics, as well as chemistry and biology, and there are no blind forces worth speaking about in nature.”

More recently, fellow cosmologist and science writer John Gribbin mused, “Has the cosmic porridge been lovingly cookd up by a cosmic chef who knows what Golilocks likes?”

The coincidental weirdness of our reality comes into even sharper focus when we examine all the exceptional elements that went into the distinctive designs of our Sun, the Earth and the Moon, so that our planet could function as a habitable world.

Here are just a few of the cosmic factors which, if any one of them did not happen or were altered by only one to three percent from where they are at the present moment, would make life impossible on our home sphere:

*The cluster of galaxies of which we are a part is speeding toward a super cluster called the Great Attactor in the constellation of Centaurus, at 1,300,000 miles per hour. Such gigantic yet subtle forces acting on us from over 250 million light-years’ distance is thought to have a powerful affect on how and when life appeared on the Earth.

*Our Solar system is positioned in the outer rim of the Milky Way, where background radiation remains below lethal levels, as opposed to if we had been located closer to the deadly galactic core.

*We are traveling around our Galaxy at 500,000 miles an hour in an orbit that takes us both above and below the Galactic Equator and the Galactic Plane, a full circuit of which is completed approximately evey 225 million years. This journey is thought to coinside with cycles of living matter influxes, life explosions and planetary extinctions seen in the terrestrial fossil record.

*The Earth circles the Sun in a 587-million-mile orbit in 365.2425 days, at a speed of 67,000 miles per hour, and is positioned at precisely the mean distance of 93,000,000 million miles from the Solar body that allows the optimum amount of sunlight to trigger photosynthesis and the sustenance of life, without fatally being too hot or too cold.

*Our planet rotates at a constant speed of 1,000 miles an hour at the Equator—lessening as one approaches the Poles—in a 24-hour day. Its rotational axis is presently at a 23.5 degrees tilt, which offers hemispheric seasonal changes. This in turn has allowed for a wider diversification of planetary flora and fauna that has adapted to evolutionary environmental survival stimuli.

*The Earth’s orbit is not always circular but changes into an ellipse or oval, and the Sun’s position inside this oval is not central. This means that the Earth can move closer and farther away from the Sun, which dictates the amount of heat that reaches its surface. The changes in planetary orbital shape takes place in an Eccentricity Cycle of 100,000 years. The Earth’s axis tilt goes through its own gradual metamorphosis, slowly changing between 22.1 and 24.5 degrees, which also affects how much solar heat the world is getting. This is called the Obliquity Cycle, and goes through its complete shift in 41,000 years. It is now thought that when these two Cycles converge, it contributes to the advent of an Ice Age. In our immediate past, Ice Ages marked periods when life forms became extinct and new more advanced forms took their place, as well as when there were significant quantum leaps in the evolution of human cognitive abilities and tool-making skills.

*The Earth’s axis has a number of slight wobbles, one of which creates what is called the Precession of the Equinoxes, whereby the Sun appears to rise each year slightly behind where it did the year before, forming a grand bakcward circuit through the Zodiacal constellations over a period of 25,920 years. This cycle, which brings in different stellar radiations from various positions in the heavens, is thought to influence the awakening of intelligence and the rise and fall of civilizations during the sequential order of Zodiacal Ages as defined by the Precession’s unfolding.

*The most influential body on our planet is the Sun, and at 865,000 miles in diameter is 109 times larger than the Earth. It has a roughly 11-year sunspot cycle, with Solar Maximums and Minimums designating when sunspot activity is generally at its ighest and lowest. The problem is that sunspot storms on the solar surface ceate violent electromagnetic discharges into what is called the solar wind that constantly blows by our planet. This affects our geomagnetic field, which in turn can likewise influence global weather patterns, seismic activity along the world’s faut zones, radio and computer tele-communications, plant and animal behavior, and even human emotions, mental stability and physical health.

Fortunately for us, we just so happen to be orbiting a relatively young but unusually stable yellow star that has remained uncharacteristically quiescent during its 4.5 billion year existence. It has been free of mega-flares, jets or outgassings observed in other stars, that if any of these happened in our Sun it would ignite our atmosphere and completely destroy all life on Earth in a matter of hours. Just what is it, exactly, that is maintaining the continued stability of our star, and over such a long period of time, allowing the evolution of intelligence to take place?

*Then we have the very odd situation concerning our neighboring Moon. It has a diameter of 2,160 miles, a mean distance from the Earth of 238,000 miles, and an orbital speed of 2,286 miles an hour. The lunar orb’s chief influence is on our world’s oceanic tides, durations of chemical reactions, monthly life cycles such as menstrual periods, and the measurable rise and fall of blood pressures in both animals and humans. If the Moon were situated any closer, the world tidal waves would engulf the continents. And if it was located farther out, biological cycles that maintain the natural rhythms of life would be inoperable.

*As if these purposefully imposed conditions on Earthly existence were not enough, there are two major phenomena that point to the Moon having been specifically designed for this planet. First, the lunar rotation and orbital period exactly match each other, at 27.32 days. What this results in is that only one side of the Moon always faces toward the Earth, which has the accumulative effect of enhancing its gravitational pull on our globe. Not one of the other moons in the rest of our Solar system—and as far as we have been able to study, none of the other extra solar orbs in other star systems—exhibit such a unique feature. Not only does this have a measurable physical effect, but it also has had a profound psychological impact on the development of the human psyche over the last 100,000 years, as seen portrayed in the earliest prehistoric samples of lunar-inspired art and in hunting calendrical systems.

Second, the Sun is precisely 400 times larger than the Moon. Yet when we gaze up into the sky, they appear to be the same size. What this translates into is that, during a total solar eclipse, the Moon exactly covers the disk of the Sun, and creates the solar corona halo phenomenon that can be witnessed nowhere else but from the Earth. At exactly the same time, the shadow of the Moon reaches precisely to the Earth, coming to a point on the global surface. Move the lunar orb only a few hundred miles in either direction inward or outward from us, and the phenomenon would cease to work. None of the occultations of moons and planets throughout the rest of our Solar system comes even close to matching this. And once again this one-of-a-kind event has had an important effect in the evolution of intelligent observation and inquiry in the history of humanity.

Stranger yet is the inter-association of numbers involved. During the Moon’s complete orbit around the Earth, the length of its path is equal to 720 times that of the lunar diameter. This number also happens to be the largest integer that divides all three orbs’ diameters evenly:

*720 X 12 = 8,640,(000) miles, the diameter of the Sun

*720 X 11 = 7,920 miles, the diameter of the Earth

*720 X 3 = 2,160 miles, the diameter of the Moon

What is more, if one draws a perfect square around the circumference of the Moon, it creates a perimeter of 8,640 miles, or exactly 1/100th the diameter of the Sun.

These striking numerical interconnections for Sun, Earth and Moon cannot be mere coincidence, but instead point to very specific design features that are anything but natural or were left to chance.

At the end of 2008, various astrophysicists around the world reported that they have detected subtle forces at work, the origins of which came from “unknown, unseen structures” situated at the very edges of the Universe. These structures are tugging at us everywhere, like cosmic magnets, and have a definite shaping quality on the formation of matter, the organization of molecules, and even the design of the basic constituents of life.

There are even indications that the distribution of these mysterious structures surrounding us in the outermost reaches of deepest space are organized according to a very sophisticated geometric order. Whatever this enigmatic source is, its influence has been present since our Universe first came into being over fifteen billion years ago.

Is the existence of such extra-cosmic structures only coincidental, or are they signs of an active participation by higher intelligences in the ongoing continuous creation of our universal material reality?

There are a number of galaxies within observable deep space around us that contain hugh wisps and filaments of brilliant gases that look like giant spider webs that appear organized, even geometric in their form. University of Cambridge astronomers recently announced—using the Hubble Space Telescope to closely examine a major galactic source within the constellation of Perseus—how such gaseous threads originate. The Perseus galaxy under study, which is ten times larger than our own Milky Way, has a massive black hole at its center, which is constantly spewing out fiery jets and bubbles of gas on a periodic basis, ever-building the web into greater complexities.

At the same time, the hole is holding in place an all-pervading magnetic field which—though only one-ten thousandth the strength of the Earth’s—is nevertheless titanic in size, and by its presence keeps the web of filament threads intact. The Cambridge astronomiers believe that most younger elliptical galaxies have similar web systems surrounding them.

What is not so easily explained is why the galactic webbing configurations show intricate design features that hint at some form of Intelligence at work. It is as if the cycles of the creation and destruction of matter in the zones surrounding the black hole and defined within its web is being deliberately organized, and we are really witnessing a huge factory in the process of producing something artificial, yet is beyond our comprehension to determine what it could possibly be.

Most fascinating is that many of the gaseous filaments which appear to connect whole star systems together in the outer reaches of their galaxies are identical to modern medical electroscan images of brain cells interlinked by threads of neuron pathways. Whatever is being macro-manufactured is under a super-intelligent control inside its own galactic matrix.

In addition, there are a number of astrophysicists who feel that our own Milky Way may have a black hole in its center, and that it is ejecting and holding in place its own structure of geometric filaments and threads, only one which we cannot see because the core of our galaxy is encompassed by an impenetrable spheroid of brilliant gases. Are the same intelligences at work in other galaxies also manufacturing something of total mystery in the center of our own massive swirl of stars?

As an interesting aside, in 2002 astronomer and professor Dr. Scott Hyman of the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory announced that a most unusual occurrence was detected on September 30 to October 1 of that year. Low frequency coherent radio waves were received coming from the very heart of the Milky Way. The signal was made up of five highly energetic radio emissions of equal strength that lasted 10 minutes each and were broadcast every 77 minutes over a 7-hour period. This was the very first time that such signals were ever received from the center of out Galaxy, and have never been repeated. Is someone trying to reach us about what is really going on in the invisible galactic core?

Speculative science writer Jaron Lanier believes that the only way we are going to be able to attract the attention of advanced “alien” civilizations in the cosmos is to go out into deep space and actually move stars around in order to create huge patterns that would be recognizeable to intelligent beings observing our portion of the Universe from afar. This process, which he calls “graphstellation,” might hide a complex physics formula within its structural geometric layout, to serve as a test for others to solve, and would indicate our own mutual degree of sophisticated scientific achievements.

Lanier notes that the ancient Egyptians, in their design and proportional distribution of the Pyramids at Giza, incorporated advanced geometric principles such as Pythagorean theorems and Fibonacci numbers that would only be known to future civilizations who understood their true meanings, and would be curious enough to delve deeper into the hidden Giza mysteries.

Even if the supposed “aliens” did not comprehend our message, Lanier speculates further, they might at least be able to detect noticeable changes in the qualities of the light from the moved stars, or wobbles in their new positions, as well as other clues that something about them had been artificially altered. After stating his proposal to create a celestial signpost announcing our presence, Lanier then asks the important question, has this already been done by other inhabitants in our Universe with whom we unknowingly share residence? Are there higher intelligences who have planted visual markers we have either not yet found, or we have yet to fully decipher? Do “graphstellations” exist in the farthest reaches of deep space that await our discovery or our final puzzle solution? In making an active search, Lanier concludes:

“This will not be a trivial exercise. There are a lot of stars, and we have to consider the potential range of graphstellation designs, not only the ones that have occurred to us. But I am in the process of engaging my astronomer friends in the hunt. I have also been talking to people who plan space missions. Crazier things have happened.”

Advanced physics researcher Paul LaViolette, of the Starburst Foundation Research Institute, has authored several controversial books on avant-garde concepts regarding the true nature of the Universe. He firmly believes that certain stellar bodies not only encapsulate secret messages in their configurations, but are actually broadcasting these messages in the form of continuous flashes of light. It is his opinion that the signals and locations of many celestial objects called pulsars—which produce rapid bursts in narrow beams of cosmic ray electrons with such intensity as to be detected over vast interstellar distances—are really extraterrestrial beacons. As LaViolette reveals from his exhaustive studies:

“This kind of radio transmission essentially describes the signals that astronomers routinely observe coming from pulsars. In particular, there is considerable evidence to suggest that these signals are artificial. Indeed, they are the most complex ordered phenomenon known to astronomy, and to this date, they have not been adequately accounted for by any natural-caused model.”

Closer to home, invisible structures of elusive dark matter strategically placed throughout our Solar system may be having a profound influence on heating up most of the Sun’s orbiting spheres. Theoretical physicist Stephen Adler of the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton has been analyzing data resulting from measurements taken of lasers fired at the Moon, at Earth-orbiting satellites and at spacecraft sent to the farthest regions of the Solar system. He has also made calculations based on the anomalies seen in the projectories of Pioneer, Galileo, Cassini, Rosetta and other deep space probes.

His conclusions? Adler believes the Earth–Moon system has 24 trillion metric tons of invisible dark matter between them and surrounding them. As dark matter continually collides with regular matter in the center of our planet, it is creating an internal heat that has helped maintain the existence of life on our world since its very beginnings.

Adler also surmises that similar such collisions between encompassing haloes of dark matter that are held in place by magnetic and gravitational fields, and the solid cores of the gas giants Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, are the answer to the mystery of how these titanic outer planets are able to sustain their heretofore unexplained production of internal heat. Is this perhaps helping to support their own individual forms of life we have so far not as yet detected?

Some investigators are of the opinion that frequent outgassings from the outer orbs carry with them indigenous extraterritorial living matter, which in turn periodically travels Sunward and seeds the Earth with new life on a continual basis over the eons. Is the presence of dark matter that makes this possible only a coincidence, or was it deliberately placed in specific locations around the various planets by higher intelligences in the remote past, in order to ensure that life would always grow and evolve on our world and among all the worlds in our Solar system?

”If you build it, they will come.” During its long existence, whenever the Earth was ready to support life—having a solid surface, sufficient amounts of water, the presence of a supportive and protecting atmosphere, plus a goodly supply of inorganic nutrients—then it was, as if on cue, that the beginnings of planetary life was jump-started by the arrival of help from elsewhere.

In 2008, astrobiologists at Imperial College in London announced they had found key components of genetic material in a 4.6-billion-year-old carbon-rich meteorite from Murchison, Australia that had fallen to Earth in 1969. More specifically, the researchers extracted molecules of nucleobases that are found in DNA and RNA, essential building blocks in the formation of life. What is more, these nucleobases were found in radiocarbon ratios which could only have been formed in space. The head of the research team, Zita Martins, stated:

“We believe early life may have adopted nucleobases from meteoric fragments for use in genetic coding which enabled them to pass on their successful features to subsequent generations. This is the first time anybody has proved that nucleobases in a meteorite are extraterrestrial. Meteorites and comets bombarded us and other planets. So it means that the building blocks were delivered here and to other points in our solar system. If these were synthesized in space, they could be widespread throughout the universe.”

Yet the fact that such sophisticated genetic production occurred 4.6 billion years exactly when the Earth was prepared to accept it and utilize it for the appearance of terrestrial life, strongly suggests a certain degree of purposefulness behind this “coincidence.” But this is precisely what is testified to by the sudden unprecedented massive explosion—as if from nowhere—of micro-organic mega-swarms we today see preserved among the remains of the earliest fossil record.

Meanwhile, astronomers working with the Green Bank Telescope at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in West Virginia have detected the radio emissions’ signature of eight highly complex organic molecules, the largest such compounds ever found in deep space. Various mechanisms of how these could have formed naturally have been proposed, but each possibility cannot be duplicated under laboratory conditions without some intelligent assistance in applying the right ingredients, right temperatures and pressures in precisely the right sequence and times. Was “intelligent assistance” also part of the process in the creation of sophisticated organic molecules in the cosmos at large?

One day we may find evidence of not just genetic materials surviving the rigors of journeys through space, but even whole living creatures with the ability to enter unknown forms of the deepest hibernation or suspended animation.

Recent experiments aboard the International Space Station found that tiny animals called water bears or tardigrades, that inhabit practically every corner of the Earth on land and in the oceans, were able to survive the vacuum of space for up to ten days. They are also known to be able to live with no moisture for up to a decade. Other experiments have demonstrated at least ten percent of water bears will likewise live through the effects ofhigh dosages of radiation, as can happen in space as the result of solar flares, gamma-ray bursts and supernovas. A wide range of certain creatures are now suspected of possessing a specific biologic mechanism that is able to instantly repair cellular damage as it is taking place.

Being anthropocentric, we often make the egotistic assumption that if there are Higher Intelligences existing in the Universe, then they must look and act like us. But like the cartoon of the scientist looking into a microscope, and the single-cell organisms he is scrutinizing suddenly yell up to him, “Take us to your leader!”, we must recognize that there are no constraints of life size in proportion to inherent intelligence. If super-adaptable creatures, no matter what their miniscule dimensions, have indeed arrived on our planet in times gone by, some of these may have served as carriers to bring seeds of high intelligence to our sphere, and subsequently they had a hand in supervising the development of both life and evolved intelligence.

Some interesting questions now being raised have to do with the very real possibility that the appearance of life and the directions of its evolution were manipulated over the course of past eons toward specific pre-determined ends. Could life on the Earth have happened spontaneously on its own, or was it deliberately created or introduced at a specifically chosen moment?

If we, who are the ultimate end-product of that long line of evolution, are today very close to creating artificial forms of life, could there have been primordial Higher Intelligences who in similar fashion manufactured the first strains of planetary life in the beginning of our existence?

Given the otherwise hostile environments raging everywhere in the world’s earliest history—any one of which would have been instantly fatal to the formation of living matter—was the Earth instead prepared beforehand as a terraformed receptacle to receive its initial gift of life? And as living forms evolved, were intelligent choices made as to which species progressed to the next evolutionary step, and which ended in extinction on purpose? Was our globe a vast laboratory with ongoing experiments taking place, with some outcomes focused on, while others were deemed evolutionary dead-ends and deliberately terminated? Did all this activity happen simply by chance, or was it being directed?

The Burgess Shale, discovered in the Canadian Rockies in British Columbia’s Yoho National Park, contains rich fossil beds that were laid down during the Middle Cambrian Period, between 545 and 525 million years ago. What makes the Burgess Shale very significant is that it contains the remains of a series of early arthropod creatures seen nowhere else. It constitutes an explosion of “alternative” life forms limited to one area that developed, thrived, briefly multiplied into a wide variety of bizarre entities, and then were quickly extinguished, never to reappear anywhere else ever again. They were superceded by those other contemporary creatures that became part of our own evolutionary lineage.

What is fascinating is that an in-depth study of the Burgess menagerie’s anatomical structuring reveals certain inherent design limitations that would have prevented any of its constituents from being able to evolve into advanced higher orders that could have developed into intelligent life. Their collective demise was not up to chance or being edged out by competition—instead, a cognitive assessment was performed, a choice was decided upon, and the entire Burgess fauna was altogether eliminated.

The same decision-making process seems to have occurred during the Triassic Period, between 230 and 200 million years ago, with the first appearance of the dinosaurs. Researchers from the Univerrsity of Bristol in England and the Museum of Natural History in New York City, concluded from an investigation of the fossil record that the main competitor of the earliest saurians, known as crucotarsans, were in many ways much better suited to fill in the then vacated evolutionary niche of planetary dominance, and by all the odds should have superceded the dinosaurs to rule the Earth for the next several millions of years. But something—or someone—favored the saurians instead. Sudden rapid climate changes selectively wiped out the crucotarsans but did not for some unexplained reason affect the dinosaurs, who went on to rule the world from the Triassic to the Cretaceous, for over 165 million years. Was this a matter of “luck” or evidence of selective manipulation?

This next brings us to the question of what, exactly, brought about the end of the dinosaurs themselves, 65 million years ago? We know that a comet or asteroid hit the Earth at that time, and the overwhelming devastation produced a planet-wide extinction level event. But could such a tremendous cosmic catastrophe have been deliberate? At the end of the Cretaceous the dinosaurs were still a viable and robust life form, and if the meteoric impact had not taken place, perhaps an intelligent saurian species might have developed within the next 50 million years, long before our distant ancestors arrived on the scene.

But there was another experiment underway, the advent of the earliest mammals, a biological advance that was structurally better suited to be a vehicle for evolving intelligence. Once again, the incoming cataclysm somehow managed to wipe out only the dinosaurs, while leaving the earliest mammals miraculously intact, ready to take over as the predominant planetary fauna. And eventually we became the inheritors of their basic form.

Once again we may well ask, were the dinosaurs merely ill-fated, and was this all just a coincidental evolutionary rollover—or did our mammalian ancesters and ourselves arrive here with a little help?

This of course begs the next question—how much has our own physical and intellectual development been shaped by an unrecognized organizing factor? And is it still going on?

Just as modern computer technicians have learned that information can be stored and retrieved from quartz crystals, so neuro-psychologists are just beginning to realize that memories and even consciousness itself can be instilled in a variey of natural crystalline substances such as diamonds, as well as artificially made exotic metallic crystals. Since such mineral elements are durable and long-lasting enough to withstand the rigors of lengthy voyages in deep space, it is no wonder to see why modern researchers are experimenting with the idea of transporting cosciousness throughout the cosmos, not in a frail and ephemeral biological body, but rather in a nearly indestructible and non-ageing crystal medium.

Yet did higher intelligences anticipate this process eons ago, and over great spans of time and space did they manage to “seed” the Earth with their collective consciousness more than once in the distant past?

In Brazil and central Africa a particular kind of diamond is found called carbonados that are pumice-like, dark and so full of tiny bubbles that they cannot be cut and polished into gemstones. Their general makeup is most unlike other types of diamonds that exist in the world, so much so that Stephen Haggerty, a geologist at Florida International University concluded that carbonados are “totally incompatible with a deep-earth origin.” Instead, their inherent hydrogen and nitrogen contents and ratios indicate they originated in interstellar space.

The age of these peculiar diamonds has been calculated between 2.6 and 3.8 billion years old—just about the time that life was being coaxed into existence in the Earth. Because of plate tectonics and continental drift, during that remote period South America and Africa were joined together, and since carbonados are found nowhere else but in this one singular location, Haggerty suspects that they all arrived together in one mass in a meteoric impact. But because not all the fragments are the same color—ranging from black to gray to green to red—this is indicative that the extraterrestrial diamond cargo had been embedded and contained within another type of rock or casing. That unknown encasement has totally weathered away over the eons, but the uneven discoloration of the diamond fragments testifies to its former existence. Were the carbonados purposely transported to our planet ages ago, and if so, just what was it carrying within its crystalline matrix?

Beginning in the 1980’s, tiny single crystals of zircon were unearthed in the Jack Hill and Mount Narryar regions of western Australia which date as far back of 4.4 billion years. Though these zircons are of terrestrial origin, their distribution and the fact that they had been subjected to tremendous exterior forces at the time of their first formation are suggestive of being directly acted upon by a meteoric impact.

Had some form of consciousness from elsewhere been imparted to this crystalline mass at the time of their creation?

What makes these incredibly old zircons so out-of-place is that, prior to their discovery, most geologists had assumed that the Earth’s surface 4.4 billion years ago was still in a molten state, and did not completely solidify for at least another half a billion years. But the presence of zircon crystals—which could not have formed in a continuous magma medium—indicates a much cooler, more solid and quiescent primordial landscape. In fact, several chemical signatures associated with these crystals point to a planetary environment that could have been conducive to the appearance of life almost a billion years earler than presently claimed by paleo-biologists. These include:

*Lower levels of internal titanium indicating lower temperatures of formation that only could have occurred in granitic continental rock

*Patterns of europium and cerium pointing to the crystallization process taking place within solid surface stratum, as opposed to being under hotter and more pressurized mantle conditions

*Ratios of neodymium and hafnium radio isotopes presupposing significant amounts of continental crust had already manifested

*Some of the zircons contain pieces of quartz crystals, a constituent of granitic rock, which is only common to more evolved continental crust

*High oxygen isotope ratios suggesting the zircons developed in a rain-soaked or oceanic landscape. Such conditions could have supported the appearance of life.

*Many of the crystals have rounded surfaces instead of sharp-edged facets, which shows they had been subjected to being buffeted and worn down by either running water or winds blowing over long distances, possibly a large continental landmass.

Curiously, a significant number of the crystals give evidence of having been formed in a multi-stage process. First, growth was inaugurated by an impact event 4.4 billion years ago. There followed a core growth of perhaps half a billion years. The crystals grew concentrically by slowly added material to their grain boundary. Then a gap appears between the cores and rims, a major hiatus when continued growth suddenly ceased. Was there a second major meteor strike that ended the primal world? Or did it introduce a second consciousness to begin a new Earth all over again? Whatever the event, after this break more layers of growth started up 3.7 billion years ago and continued to 3.3 billion years ago, when the crystalline evolution terminated for all the zircons.

Other extremely old impact craters have not left crystals behind, but rather curious energy anomalies that still linger to this day. The Vredefort Crater, located about sixty miles southwest of Johannesburg, South Africa, has a 180-mile wide rim that was the result of a falling meteor with an estimated diameter of five miles, which took place 2 billion years ago. Today, when walking around its basinr with a magnetic compass, practically every step causes the needle to point in a radically different direction. As one researcher who trekked across its interior remarked, “It’s like being in the Burmuda Triangle.”

Equally as baffling as the powerful anomalies are specific areas where there are lower than normal magnetic readings, as if someone has punched a hole in the background geomagnetic field.

When all the immediate spaces of widely varying field intensities are mapped out, they create a sophisticated signature pattern with complex geometrics incorporated into it. Was this designed to be a marker left by higher intelligences who once imprinted their consciousness here in a very specific physical manner? And is there a message still present, meant to be understood by us, the evolutionary end-products they may still be directing?

I know from my own experiences hiking a dozen times around the nearly mile-wide rim of Barringer Meteor Crater in northern Arizona—dating back about 50,000 years—that I have detected with a compass strange ephemeral magnetic aberrations. I have also witnessed unusual light and shadow patterns in the indigenous rock formations that keep appearing and disappearing with the daily and seasonal movements of the Sun. And I have likewise found specific locations where I have experienced either sudden energy surges or energy voids, as well as “zones of silence” wherein I have felt my consciousness being impinged upon by an intelligent but invisible presence trying to open communications.

In the Earth’s birthing days as a primordial world, we know by examining its initial geologic layers left behind that our planet went through a series of major cataclysmic events—its surface repeatedly turned to liquid from super-bursts of cosmic radiation, or completely encased in ice because of very extreme climate changes, or being struck by periodic massive meteor showers, even small planetoids, that more than once totally wiped out whatever life forms may have taken root. There was sufficient time in between these early world-wide catastrophes that would have allowed not only life to be implanted and grow, but also to evolve and become the vehicles for intelligence to expand, in turn to develop into self-sentient beings, even building their own civilizations and higher technologies.

There are almost a dozen known deep-time examples of the presence of early life and their creation of artifacts of definite artificial manufacture that have been unearthed from the Archean and Hadean strata. Following is a brief listing of these out-of-place objects, giving the location, the date of discovery, the artifact description with geologic setting, and the geologic age:

*Sierra Anchor region near Phoenix, Arizona—1972—series of hollow petrified cylinders encased in Proterozoic sandstone—1.2 billion years old

*Hudson Bay, Canada—1872—corundum alloyed micro-sculptures embedded in the Belcher Group Formation—1.8 billion years old

*Near Port Arthur, Ontario, Canada—1982—human-like footprints with four toes and in double rows—2 billion years old

*Perth region, western Australia—1966—wire and sheet metal artifacts discovered by X-ray inside geodes among Bitter Springs Prokaryotes Fossil Beds—over 2 billion years old

*Wonderstone Silver Mine near Ottasdal, Transvaal, South Africa—beginning in 1979—over 200 nickel-steel alloy spheroids some incised with three grooves, embedded in pyrophylite—between 2.8 and 3.2 billion years old

*Namibian Kalahari Craton, southwest Africa—1899—gold alloy branched tree-like artifacts, found in the African Bulawayar Formation—3.5 billion years old

*Near Pretoria, South Africa—1859—silicon-titanium posts in Onverwacht Group strata—3.5 billion years old

*West of Darwin, northern Australia—1908—artificially carved molybdenite crystals encased in Pilbara Supergroup layers—3.6 billion years old

*Southeast of Walvis Bay, Namibia—1898—unnatural cubic formations of an unidentified metal, dug out of Kalahari Craton strata—3.7 billion years old

*Eastern Yukon Territory, Canada—1933—numerous non-crystal alloy octahedrons showing signs of machine-tooling, encased in Acasta Gneiss— 3.9 billion years old

*Twin Sisters Range, Washington—1961—a group of over 100 unspecified metal forms which make up a message composed of three-dimensional letters, embedded in olivine stone—4.1 billion years old

Were there even earlier examples of life, evolved life, intelligent life and technology-producing life for which we have no more physical records available, that were periodically expunged as our planet went through its primordial spasms of total destruction?

Taking this possibility further, were such initial grand cycles planned and fulfilled by higher intelligences who directly worked with each forgotten era of existence—seeding life, guiding its evolution, teaching the intelligent beings who emerged, and finally pointing the resulting civilized technologies toward their destinies into the stars?

As the Earth has been seeded many times in its remotest past, how many times has the Earth in turn seeded the surrounding cosmos with waves of its intelligent life forms reaching out into the distant void?

Can we even dare to speculate further that some of these earliest waves of intelligent beings from our primordial planet, who made their ways heavenward in past eons, have by now evolved to become higher intelligences in their own right? And are they presently directing the evolutionary processes on other worlds, among the farthest reaches of the Universe?
